Automotive Paint Defects Slow Production Time

In response to basecoat and clearcoat drips on the bottom of the customer’s gas lid, our expert team advised the customer to make mechanical changes to the cure oven. The result was a complete elimination of automotive paint defects by drawing paint away from the gas lid during cure.

United States

Our automotive customer was finding basecoat and clearcoat drips on the bottom of the gas lid, causing longer production times because of the downtime required to fix the problem.

The CPI Solution Squad explored and tested multiple options, determining that the optimal resolution was to weld a round bar underneath the gas lid.

The paint was attracted away from the bottom of the gas lid and the problem was resolved, eliminating automotive paint defects, and returning production times to standard speed.
